Julie, a freelance journalist I met in Caracas, just sent this through... The story so far... Dear All, My apologies for sending round one of these here round robins but tis the best i can do in the time... Well, there is simply TOO MUCH to tell you all about this revolution, but perhaps the most important thing is that it is happening all over the country and is being carried forward not by the officials and bureaucrats but the ordinary people who through a massive effort of will and as an … [Read more...]
Good Weekend, Busy Week…
Had a good weekend...and with Another World Is Blossoming kicking off, plus a load of other work, its going to be a busy week... Thursday night I headed along to Movimientos at the Salmon and Compass in Islington. Geoff was DJing downstairs, so I said a quick hello and gave him an Another World Is Blossoming flyer before heading upstairs to watch the films. The first film was a nice Venezuelan Gov't short about Mision Vuelvan Caras. Whilst in Caracas for the Trollparty I met a friend of … [Read more...]
Another World Is Blossoming
ANOTHER WORLD IS BLOSSOMING: March 1st - 31st, 2006 https://wiki.uniteddiversity.com/AnotherWorldIsBlossoming The systems and institutions upon which we rely for our well-being and survival are at risk of massive failure. Ecosystems everywhere are in decline. The age of cheap plentiful oil is over. Food and energy shortages are on the horizon. Few are aware of the full nature and extent of our predicament and, of those that are, many feel powerless to do anything about it. Corporate media … [Read more...]
Caracas Trollparty 2006: Part 1
Caracas Trollparty 2006 Wednesday 25th Janauary, Caracas. My first few days in Caracas have been quite an experience. On Saturday a couple of guys tried to snatch my camcorder at gunpoint, and on Tuesday evening I spoke live to the nation on Radio National Venezuela. It is now day 6 and the Caracas Trollparty has started. The Trolls, invited by SAPI, now have a full program of activities in a large tent in Plaza de los Museos, right bang in the heart of World Social Forum activities. Read on … [Read more...]
Designing an Open Organisation
Another extract from a recent e-mail... As for organisational structure, I think you and Imogen are both right. You need to define and be explicit about your structure, but operational units should have as much autonomy as possible within their defined limits/remit. People investing more time and energy in the project can still have more say about how stuff is done. Afterall, it seems fair that those doing the more implementation work should have more say in decisions about how, and what, work … [Read more...]
The London Fund
Extract from an e-mail I sent recently... My current focus is on building the necessary partnerships needed to launch The London Fund: a community finance, fundraising and marketing solution for social enterprises committed to building a sustainable collaborative economy. Apparently the Mayor's vision is "for London to become an exemplary sustainable world city". The London Fund will invest in building and maintaining the shared sustainable infrastructure needed to make this vision a … [Read more...]
uniteddiversity update
Yesterday I went to UnLtd to find out about their Level 2 funding process. I had previously attended a Level 1 surgery, but found that fairly useless. This was different... I met lots of interesting people and though the competition is tough, it seems quite likely that I will be able to get grant of upto £20,000 to develop uniteddiversity. One good contact I made was with Ben Metz who works for the London Community Recycling Network. From what he said, it sounds like he is working on a similar … [Read more...]

Peace Not War @ Cargo, Sept 11th 2005
THE FUTURE OF PEACE NOT WAR A new collective of musicians, activists and techies has formed. 45 people attended the inaugural meeting of the Peace Not War Collective, held on July 30th at St George's Circle Community Centre, London. Many Londoners are concerned that the July 7 bombings will be used as an excuse to invade another oil-rich country, and are building a peaceful resistance to Blair's propaganda. Inspired by the G8 Dissent in Scotland, Peace … [Read more...]
