The power of one man to transform a desert into a lush and verdant land.
Shepherd Elzard Bouffier lives alone with his sheep not far from a drought-stricken and windswept hamlet. After the death of his wife and child, he chooses to devote the rest of his life to a patient and anonymous endeavor, which ultimately adds beauty and sustenance to the human and animal communities in the mountains where he lives.
I read this story years ago and was quite impressed at the change that one person’s determination can make in the environment – if we only are prepared to wait for nature to do what it does. We humans usually are not having a long enough view (or patience) to observe what happens…
Its a wonderful story, but apparently not actually a true one, although there are people who have indeed done very similar things 🙂
